The anticipation surrounding The Game Awards has been intense, particularly after host Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling photo of a strange statue. The mystery is finally answered. Larian Studios is creating a brand-new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer featuring striking imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal unleashing of hell.
Not the Expected Sequel
For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio warned that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.
Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This phrasing suggests that the team is likely designing a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another turn-based title. Currently, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is universally respected and it's fair to claim it kicked off the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—elements that subsequently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities you can achieve by choosing a particular class or origin with a personal story.
The series is also wonderfully permissive, enabling players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be approached in diverse methods, often in unexpected fashion.
- You might find an answer because you recalled something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a inventive way.
More to Come
It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, players can look forward to a new entry in this legendary franchise.
