The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category Could Fix That

Whenever a significant honors show approaches, one notices a demand for introducing additional classifications to recognize underappreciated efforts and satisfy the spirits of fans who have specialized interests.

My colleague previously argued supporting a scary games classification. That would rule. Equally deserving are tabletop games, which is a passionate advocate's mission. However, I must insist when I prioritize because like all single-minded supporters, I possess a compelling case for why my demand stands as crucial and significant. This is the request: It's essential to create a category for puzzle games.

Categorizing Game Types

Categorizing art by genre defies precise measurement; it’s very subjective, and it will always start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that film award organizations avoid this approach. But it is an unavoidable compromise in the world of video games, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.

To recognize the complete range of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Leading game ceremonies currently feature award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these classifications successfully include a lot of ground, making space possible for most games within them.

Different situation exists for logic-based experiences. No suitable classification appears to put them. Consider three of outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: structural challenges of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios of a third title. What category would fit them among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

The Representation Problem

Numerous examples exist excellent brain-teasers published annually that have no home at major award shows, except when they manage to fit award groups including Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive independent game categories.

  • One classic puzzle game got overlooked completely that year
  • A different innovative game was excluded during that ceremony
  • Well-received sorting experience received no acknowledgment recently
  • Only a few puzzle games managed to sneak into independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

Frequently they represent compact experiences, but the art of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Well-known matching games rank among most engaged experiences globally continuing this trend for many years.

The famous puzzle experience rivals famous sandbox experiences for the title of most purchased experience; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and engaging with diverse game types.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. One could readily select a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — actually, with challenge, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.

Restating the point, these include experiences without proper classification during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers operate at the hard edge game development, developing some of most fundamental forms of gaming itself. Comparable to movie stunt professionals, they deserve recognition. Don't make them wait generations.
